The Thai-Lahu Foundation (TLF) is an NGO/NPO caring for the livelihood, education, health issues and rights of different hill tribes in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai province of Northern Thailand.
Background:
The Lahu Health Project was established in 1994. At that time, HIV/AIDS was spreading violently in Thailand, especially in the north. Tribal people have been affected by HIV/AIDS the same way as Thai people, but in the tribal group the problem has been more vehemently. Ethnic minorities lack knowledge, because they have low level of education. Language and culture also limit them. The Lahu Health & Development Project (LHDP) was established in order to prevent and solve HIV/AIDS problems and drug abuse in Lahu communities.
In 1996, the project realized that problem solutions need communities’ participation. Then the project activities expanded to other related issues, included AIDS and drug abuse.
The project was registered a non-governmental organisation the Thai-Lahu Foundation in 2001 which still works to address and responds to many problems in Lahu communities.
Our target group belongs to the Lahu ethnic tribe and is located in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai province of Northern Thailand.
Projects:
The various projects of the Thai-Lahu Foundation are divided into three educational programmes - with love & care, Phrao dormitory and Lahu Network Training Centre - and one community development program - Lahu Health & Development Project.
