The Educational Travel Foundation (ETF) supports individuals and communities in least-developed countries(LDCs) to maximize their potential to benefit from tourism development by funding educational travel and acting as a source of support in order to ensure the acquisition of relevant knowledge and skills. Facilitating the development of local expertise in community based tourism projects in developing countries is essential in building capacity within communities. The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization supported by voluntary contributions, which include individual and corporate sponsorship, gifts, annual pledges, endorsements, and bequests.
The specific objectives of the foundation are:
To advance the education of individuals or communities in less developed countries in subjects relating to tourism and its sustainable development and to promote study and research in such subjects in order to build capacity and promote community development. To develop the capacity and skills of the members of the socially and economically disadvantaged communities of LDCs in such a way that they are better able to identify, and meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society.
