| About BioAlcohol Fuel Foundation - BAFF： |
BAFF`s aim is to study and promote the development of new and existing technology for the usage of bio-alcohol, primarily as a renewable alternative to fossil fuel. Production would take place from biological material and environmental aspects would have the highest priority to develop a sustainable society.
An important factor in the development process is to inform decision makers and the public about existing information, the possibilities that are available and the approach to the problems that should be solved before choosing bio alcohol as an alternative renewable fuel in Sweden.
The goal can be achieved by:
Gathering relevant collaborators to support research & development and implement the project.
Initiate production aspects of the project together with the potential owners
Build an infrastructure for ethanol storage tanks with the co-operation of the manufacturers, suppliers and distributors of ethanol
Develop production techniques for energy and cost-effective production
BAFF wants to achieve the following goals:
2% of fuel in the year 2005 should be bio based ethanol
6% of fuel in the year 2010 should be based on bio-based renewable material, mostly ethanol
The organisation`s vision for Sweden:
- to be the world leader in bio alcohols as an alternative for fossil fuel
- to be a model for other countries in the building of the infrastructure and introduction of fuel alcohol
- to be the world leader in production techniques of bio alcohol based on cellulose from softwood
- to be the leader in technical development and the usage of bio alcohol for heavy and light vehicles.
The Swedish Ethanol Development Foundation was established in 1983, and the main aim was to develop production techniques and usage of bio-based ethanol. A very important part of the organisation is directed towards the transport sector. The founding factor for this has been that the organisation has discovered ethanol as the most rational alternative fuel, meeting the standards and requirements suiting the environment. Immense access to raw material, the knowledge to utilise by-products from the forest and bio energy, including the knowledge of technical process in the paper pulp and chemical industries is of great importance.
The foundation is responsible for the project, with special relevance to production, usage and information which has cost SEK 100 million.
The international focus and an organisation that includes methanol as well as ethanol is the basis for the change in the name to BioAlcohol Fuel Foundation, BAFF which commenced in 1999.
