| About Caretakers of the Environment International CEI Ireland: |
CEI is a non governmental organisation run by a panel of teachers to advance the study of Environmental Education throughout the island of Ireland. C.E.I. has a management team of eight teachers, four of whom come from Northern Ireland and four from the Republic of Ireland.
Aims of Caretakers of the Environment Ireland:
- We wish to encourage teachers and students to become involved in Environmental Education and environmental projects
- Co-operation on environmental projects between controlled and voluntary schools within Northern Ireland.
- Co-operation on Environmental awareness projects between schools not only in both parts of Ireland but also in Europe and the wider world.
The basis of any organisation is a tradition of good practice within the area of study. The foundation for this was laid within the framework of the European Action for the Environment (E.A.E.) network. This was run jointly by the departments of Education in both jurisdictions with the aid of Co-operation North and O.E.C.D. funding. This network placed emphasis on project work and the importance of pupil exchange of information preferably by personal contact. The joint chairpersons of Caretakers Ireland have worked together on a number of these projects and exchanges.
