| About Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation： |
The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation came into being in August 2003 as a result of a merger between The Maurice Laing Foundation, founded by Sir Maurice Laing in June 1972 and The Rufford Foundation founded in June 1982 by John Hedley Laing.
The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation is a private grant-making trust. It is a member of the Association of Charitable Foundations and our charity registration number is 326163.
The Major Funding Programme
This programme supports registered charities whose work is concerned with nature conservation, the environment, and sustainable development in non-first world countries, with approximately two thirds of the Foundation`s funding going to these areas. The Major Funding Programme also supports projects in the field of HIV/AIDS and our giving is facilitated via the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Following the merger, The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation adopted the Maurice Laing Foundation`s support of scientific research into the efficacy of complementary health treatments and their integration into general medicine and a number of grants have been made in this respect. Please note, the Foundation is not currently open to any further applications for funding for this aspect of the Major Funding Programme.
The General Funding Programme
Many other non-environmental causes are supported through this Programme, especially in the field of social welfare. Grants in this category are available up to £5,000 for projects run by UK registered charities.

Rufford Small Grants for Nature Conservation
The Foundation supports and runs The Rufford Small Grants for Nature Conservation. These grants of up to £5,000 are aimed at individuals or small groups running conservation programmes and pilot projects and are not designed to be a small part of a large undertaking. |
