| About Nationwide Foundation: |
The Nationwide Foundation is a registered charity (no 1065552) which makes donations to charitable organisations and is funded principally from contributions from Nationwide Building Society. It is a separate legal entity from the Society and is run by a Board of Trustees.
The Foundation has a membership consisting of those who became Society members on or after 2 November 1997. These members agree to assign to the Foundation, any potential windfall benefit which they may be entitled to, in the event of the Society undergoing conversion or takeover. Some longer standing Society members have chosen to make this assignment as well.
Mission
The Nationwide Foundation works towards a just and caring society by encouraging people to take part in building better futures in their communities.
The Foundation has a history of offering support to those most in need in the UK, with a focus on targeting social exclusion. Grants totalling over £20m have been made to such causes, benefiting thousands. This has included small grants and a large grants programme called the New Generation Initiative (NGI) under which the Foundation dedicated long term support to five charities.
The Trustees of the Foundation are committed to ensuring that the charity's funds are deployed for maximum benefit and have undertaken a detailed strategic review, incorporating its learning to date. The resulting grants programmes are designed to help people in need and importantly, to help break the drivers of social exclusion by offering support to those who are on its margins.
The Foundation is looking forward to making an impact in the fields it has chosen to support and as a conscientious funder will continue to share its learning for the greater benefit of the voluntary sector and those in need.
