We look for proposals that show a real understanding of the needs they set our to tackle, and can provide evidence to back up their case.
We encourage imaginative responses to need and will be looking for energy, ambition and a willingness to “have a go”
We don’t value innovation for its own sake – we look for proposals that can be clear about the difference they are trying to make and have ideas for sustaining the change.
We believe all young people have ideas and talents and know their own needs. We are keen to encourage and develop, the leadership potential of young people.
Reflecting the Diversity of the UK Population We look for applications that take account of the needs of minority groups, including minority ethnic communities, young disabled people and young gay men and women.
We support organisations that set high standards for themselves and others, and have effective management systems, appropriate to their stage of development.
To make the maximum impact with our grants, we place an emphasis on sharing the lessons that are learnt as widely as possible. We value learning not just success.
We recognise the importance of independent funds to unlock social innovation, but we do not plan to only be a giver of grants.
Our approach is distinctive in three key ways:
- The Foundation is committed to a strategy of interconnected programmes, designed to complement each other in a way that creates impact far beyond the sheer monetary value of our grants.
- We place a high priority on learning the lessons from the work that we fund. An emphasis on sharing learning is a hallmark of our approach across our programmes.
