The department of mathematics offers a PhD-position (doktorandtjänst) in mathematics education (matematik och lärande). The departments’ current research activities in mathematics education include comparative empirical classroom research, curriculum analyses, studies of social inequalities in mathematics education and of teachers’ professional development. The candidate will be part of a research environment in mathematics education, which offers the opportunity to expand her/his personal network to include internationally acclaimed experts.
Responsibilities:
The candidate’s responsibility will be to undertake direct basic research connected to the research project “Uppkomst av skillnader i prestationsförmåga i matematik – en empirisk studie av klassrumspraktik”. The project is conducted by an international team including researchers from Germany and Canada. Within the overall framework of the project, the PhD student will influence, which aspects s/he wishes to pursue further. The work will be carried out in close co-operation with the other members of the team.
The time allocated for PhD-studies will comprise at least 80% of the full-time position. Up to a maximum of 20% of the time, the person will be involved in teaching courses to prospective and in-service mathematics teachers and in administrative work. (100% time for PhD-studies is equivalent to a full-time 4-year position.)
Qualifications:
The candidate is required to have an academic degree (or an equivalent teacher education examination) that includes mathematics as one major subject (see document below) preferably in combination with a second subject from the social sciences or humanities. Good command of both Swedish and English is necessary.
