挪威科技大学(NTNU)工程与科学技术学院博士研究助学金

3 PhD Research Fellowships are offered at the Department of Marine Technology (MT) in the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

1 PhD research scholarship in benchmarking of logistics

DNV Research and Innovation is cooperating with NTNU and MARINTEK on the development of decision support tools for benchmarking of logistics in an environmental perspective. The project is part of the DESIMAL-project (Knowledge-building Project with User Involvement - KMB) lead by MARINTEK.

The principal objective of DESIMAL is to build new competence, methods and prototype tools enabling development of the next generation of optimization based decision support tools for improved environmental friendliness, quality and efficiency in maritime logistics, and comprises 3 sub-projects:

DESIMAL is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and the industry partners.

The research in the benchmarking-part of DESIMAL will be towards theoretical as well as applied methods for being able to develop a new generation of tools for benchmarking of logistics in an environmental perspective. To take active part in this research, one PhD candidate will be engaged. The candidate will work very closely with the research teams at DNV and MARINTEK. As there is also a formal cooperation between DNV and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) within this field, the PhD candidate will take part in this cooperation, and may spend part of his time in Athens.

Among the research topics that the PhD candidate will take part in may be:

* Specification of detailed requirements to a benchmarking tool.
* Criteria and parameter definitions for the benchmarking.
* Interrelationships/connections between the various parameters; i.e. what influences a parameter and how will changes in one parameter influence the others?
* Development of algorithms based on operations research techniques (optimization) for being able to give guidelines to the user concerning which characteristics and parameters of a logistics chain should be changed for optimally improving the benchmarks.
* Coding of the benchmarking tool, and implementation of the tool for practical use in an end user organization.

2 PhD research scholarships in sustainable conceptual ship design

Three leading Norwegian based maritime companies, Aker Yards, Rolls Royce Marine and DNV, join forces with NTNU in Trondheim to build an international competence centre for research and education on the topic “Sustainable design of ships for the future”. This research program is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and the industry partners.

The research will be directed towards both theoretical and applied methods within the thematic areas, and comprise research subjects such as:

* New and improved methods for analysis and optimization in conceptual design, with emphasis on the early assessment of sustainability, production friendliness, cost, operability and risk.
* Methods and models for ship conceptual design optimization within the context of a fleet and/or transport system, with emphasis on utilization, robustness and lifecycle environmental impact
* Product platforms, work processes and best engineering practices in design, engineering and production, focusing on parametric and configuration-based design methods and modularization.
* Methods to identify key design drivers and simplified design representations from large, complex design models, with focus on assessing performance differentials (what-if) rather than absolute performance levels.
* Methods for the efficient exploitation of data embedded in existing databases and other knowledge sources to support design decisions and verification
* Scheduling and operational planning.
* Benchmarking of logistics in an environmental perspective.

Common requirements

Applicants should have an MSc or similar degree within relevant engineering or technology areas. Experience from maritime industry is an advantage. Students completing their MSc before 1 July 2009 are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must qualify for admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, NTNU. It is a requirement for the position that the candidate applies for and is accepted for a PhD program at the Department. The application should comprise a 2-3 page description of the research plans (including scope, objectives and approach), based on discussions with the supervisor in charge. A brief recommendation from the supervisor must be included.

PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, in the State salary scale 45-51, gross NOK 353 000 to NOK 391 500 per annum (before tax). PhD candidates are normally remunerated at wage level 45. There will be a 2 % deduction to The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.

The positions adhere to the Norwegian Governments policy of balanced ethnicity, age and gender. The national labor force must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent. It is therefore a major political objective to achieve a balance of age and gender and to recruit persons with an immigrant background. Immigrants are encouraged to apply for this post. NTNU wants to increase the proportion of women in its scientific posts. Women are encouraged to apply.

The application must provide information about education, exams and previous experience. Certified copies of testimonies and documents must be attached. It is requested that research publications and other written material submitted for the evaluation of academic credentials, should be provided. In case of co-authorship, the applicant should provide a brief, written statement explaining his/her own contribution.

The applicant should also submit a short presentation of the motivation for a PhD study, an indication of position(s) of interest in priority and how the applicant sees his/her background suitable, and the applicant’s view of challenges within the research area(s).
