Within the sector of Climate research and Seismology, in the Global Climate Division of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) we offer a PhD Position as part of the EU funded Cloud Intercomparison, Process Study & Evaluation Project (EUCLIPSE).
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated PhD student. The successful PhD candidate will work with Single Column Model versions of several climate models. The central objective will be to systematically evaluate, understand and improve the interaction between low clouds, convection and radiation for present and future climate conditions within a simple and constrained single column model context. This will be done using observations from advanced atmospheric profiling stations such as the Cabauw site and through the use of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) results that will be made available within this EU project. The results of this research will be used to understand the underlying physical mechanisms that cause the wide spread in cloud climate feedback currently present in climate models and provide input for improved descriptions of cloud related processes.
