A PhD position in theoretical solid-state physics is available within the cooperation project 'NAWI Graz' between the Karl-Franzens University of Graz and Graz University of Technology The position may start as soon as March 2009, and will have a duration of approximately 5 months (no extension).
The job is to be carried out at the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Computational Physics (Faculty of Technical Mathematics and Technical Physics) of the TU Graz within the project 'Elektronische Strukturrechnung von korrelierten Halbleiter-Halbmetall Grenzflchen'.
The project consists in carrying out electronic-structure calculations for interfaces between semiconductors and half-metallic ferromagnets within the LDA+DMFT method. The results of these calculations will be used as a starting point for numerical studies of spin-transport properties across these interfaces.
Candidates should have a Master or Diploma degree in Physics, excellent academic grades and good practice in numerical methods especially in For- tran 90 or C++.
Ideal candidates should have good knowledges in methods for strongly-correlated systems, and of electronic-structure calculations within LDA+DMFT.
