A Brief Statement of My Research
My general research interests are in machine learning, data mining and information retrieval. Up to now, my works are mainly focused on sequence-related issues e.g. sequence similarity, classification of sequence examples (e.g. musical melody, word sequences and audio signal).
Toward my Masters degree, I studied on general principles underlying machine learning and data mining (e.g. inductive logic programming, neural network, evolutionary computing etc.) at the University of Bristol. It helps substantially with my current PhD study in the University of East Anglia.
The theme of my PhD research focuses on classification of sequential examples like musical melody, word sequence and audio signal. The difficulty is that most classifier is oriented towards fixed length vector data. A simple way of converting variable to fixed length is to use some sort of averaging over the whole sequence. This might work well in some cases. However, it seems a pity to lose sequence information by such averaging, and this has motivated my interest in sequence-oriented approaches. 我要提问
