Liberty Scholarship Winning Essay
The Constitution of the United States of America is the ultimate source of guidance and protection of freedom for our country. It is the founding document of our country’s federal government. It establishes the regulations and powers of the governing bodies, as well as defining the branches of government. This document explains the specific powers of the government and reveals the checks each branch has on the others. Aside from listing powers of the government it also allows states to retain certain rights and powers known as reserved powers. It is the supreme law of the land. However, it is also much more than this. As stated by Abraham Lincoln, we can not “interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.” This document outlining our system and basis of government, as well as a defender of individual rights, must be maintained and protected, and we the people must do our part to shield the Constitution. Whenever public strife arises, the government turns to this document for help and insight. It allows for interpretation, whether good or bad, establishing just execution of the law. The Constitution should not and will not be manipulated by our government to take away the very rights and liberties of the citizens that the framers of this country toiled so long and hard to establish as long as it is in the hands of wise and just leaders. 我要提问
