Scholarship Description: A position as PhD Research Fellow (PhD-stipendiat, SKO 1017) in geomechanics related to CO2 storage is available at the Department of Geosciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The position is linked to the SUCCESS research center on CO2 storage. The Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo comprises sections for Geology and Geophysics; Geography and Hydrology, Meteorology and Oceanography, the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (Centre of Excellence) and PGP (Center for Physics of Geological Processes). The academic staff consists of 40 professors and approximately 80 research fellows.  Applications are invited for a research fellowship (PhD) position in geomechanics related to CO2 storage at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo, Norway. Capture and storage of carbon dioxide (CCS) in geological reservoirs is required to satisfy global energy needs while limiting the rise in atmospheric CO2 and mitigating potential climate instabilities. Stable geological storage in saline aquifers and depleted oil and gas reservoirs depends on flow of the CO2 phase and subsequent interactions with reservoir and cap rocks.
